This archivist’s first night in Varos

My VERY first night in Varos and I was enjoying myself in The Tavern as I got to know the local adventurers and introduce myself. I was well met by a diverse team of adventurers! As I write I bubble over with so many details I want to share but just some brief introductions to set the scene.

Thoral Reinhardt the First Knight Sentinel of Sentinel Vanguard is a Watcher, which I was taught is a Dwarf that was chosen of his generation to rise up to protect them and so became half Dwarf and half Gargoyle and his skin is made entirely of STONE! And he wears neck to toe armor as well, and as you will hear later I am SO glad he is so strong and such a intense protector.
Lady Silver Blackheart is a Fire Phoenix Glimmerling with fire dancing in her eyes and a sword that speeds through the air with great speed and accuracy.
Irene is a Dragon Kindred who jokingly refers to herself as a Murder Hobo (I’m sure I’ll hear more about THAT backstory later). She wields both Shield and sword and spells in a flurry of strength and attack.
Lord Admiral Romulus LaLune, the Lord of Vigil’s End joined us as well. The retired Navy Admiral at first glance is soft spoken and listen more than he speaks. I feel that secrets and history, stories and wisdom likely fill this man.
Panlan is a Quickling Kobold who moves through the world in creative and unintuitive ways. He appears to have many connections through Evern and move through the world with magic and intrigue. But in smaller settings I found him to be quite kind and very helpful as I got my footing in this new town.
Vellea is a Glimmerling who has some sort of deep connection to Irene. She has a beautifully crafted bow and her finesse with her bow and spell work are impressive.
Rascal is a Raccoon Kindred that appears to be one part chaos & laughter and one part stealth & lethality. He disappears in the shadows and reappears only after his attacks are complete, or his random objects in hand “borrowed” from who knows where.

I say all of this not because I knew it all yet at this point in my evening, but because I feel this will help you to envision the evening that played out in front of me.
Suddenly some sort of creatures slowly bungled their way through the doors of the Tavern. They were bearing shields and swords. It was just one at first, but the adventurers quickly jumped into the fray and attacked and killed the creature – only for more to be entering behind it. The adventurers were hollaring out to each other in the heat of the battle but so new to them and to battle I have no idea what was said or the significance of it all, other than they took special interest in the fact that the creature struggled to open and enter doors.

I had no idea what the creature was but I kept my wits amount me and carefully lobbed individual arrows over the crew of mighty adventurers, most of whom were attacking heartily with swords and magic. Over time the battle bleed out into the forest surrounding the tavern and even more creatures arrived more than one at once now. It appeared they were specifically after one of the adventurers, but the group refused to give up one of their own.

In the end the adventurers won the evening and everyone was able to return to their tents for the night. However if I am behind honest the fear sat with me for awhile, especially walking about in the pitch black forest on uneven ground as these creates attacked for unknown reasons and this group of adventures i had JUST met wielded mighty weapons and magic around me. Their strength and powers swirled and crackled through the air in ways I will never forget.
